During the early phases of its 64-year history, Onkyo grew as an innovator and became an international force in audio, making the name Onkyo synonymous with sonic excellence and high-quality loudspeakers and components. Through the ‘70s, Onkyo receivers were critically acclaimed. Products of the ‘80s, including cassette tape decks, M-series amplification, turntables, AM/FM tuners like the T-909 and T-9990 and receivers won praise from critics and consumers. Today, Onkyo’s proprietary audio technologies, such as WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology), VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) and VL (Vector Linear) Digital, provide the audio quality that defines the Onkyo sound—a sound that’s meant to be felt, not just heard. The company incorporates into its huge range of home theatre and audio components only the best technologies from elsewhere in the A/V industry.

Founded in 1961 KEF was initially based in a wartime Nissen hut on the premises of Kent Engineering & Foundry (that’s where the name KEF comes from) – a metal-working company near Maidstone in Kent. Cooke, an ex-BBC electrical engineer, was keen to experiment with new materials and technologies to create products with superior acoustic quality that could reproduce recordings as natural as the original performance. From the outset, the pioneering inventiveness of KEF loudspeakers was obvious and for several decades, audiophiles around the world have revered KEF for its innovative, high-performance loudspeakers.
